Questions :How is Windows server 2019 Licensed ?

licensing@Adrialic :Windows Server 2019 is licensed under the Per Core + Client Access License (CAL) model. A minimum of 8 core licenses is required for each physical processor and a minimum of 16 core licenses is required for each server.

Questions :What if our server has more than 20 cores ?

licensing@Adrialic : You need the Standard license for 16 cores plus two add on core packs (two cores per pack.)

Questions :Are CALS required for access to windows server standard and windows Datacenter?

licensing@Adrialic : Yes ,Client Access Licenses (CAls) are only required for Windows Server 2019 Standard and Datacenter editions. You need to chose between Device CALS and USER CALS. 

Question :We are installing Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition on hardware that has one physical CPU with 10 cores that will host 2 virtual machines. How many server licenses do I need?

licensing@Adrialic: You are REQUIRED to license a minimum of 2 physical CPUs even if you only have 1, and you are REQUIRED to license a minimum of 8 cores per physical CPU. so 16 cores minimum  must be licensed.You will need a single 16 core license for Windows Server standard 2016 which gives you the right to create 2 VMS

Questions :Do linux VMS need to be licensed?

licensing@Adrialic No. Only Windows host and guest OSE are to be licensed. . .
